True comfort is built on strength and good foundations. Each frame is handcrafted within our own workshop using carefully selected solid kiln-dried beech hardwood, a material chosen for its natural strength, density, and long-term reliability. The timber is fully seasoned before use, ensuring stability and resistance to movement over time.
Our beech is responsibly sourced from European forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), reflecting our commitment to sustainable manufacturing and environmental care. Working exclusively with certified wood allows us to combine craftsmanship with conscience.
Every frame is made entirely from the ground up by skilled makers who oversee the process from start to finish. Components are shaped and assembled using time-honoured joinery methods designed to maximise durability. Rather than relying on shortcuts, each connection is reinforced through a combination of precision dowelling, bonding, and mechanical fixing to ensure lasting strength.
Where timber remains visible, it is individually finished by hand to reveal the character of the grain and the natural beauty of the wood. The result is a refined yet robust foundation—engineered to support a lifetime of use and to form the unseen backbone of an exceptional piece.
At the core of every beautifully comfortable sofa is its suspension system. This unseen layer is responsible for providing enduring support, gentle responsiveness, and the subtle lift that defines a truly well-made seat.
Because no two designs behave the same, we select the suspension method best suited to each sofa’s proportions, scale, and intended feel. Whether refined and streamlined or deep and indulgent, the engineering beneath is chosen to complement the form above—ensuring comfort that lasts.
For designs requiring a deeper, more traditional sit, individual coil springs are mounted to a steel framework. This system allows for generous vertical movement, excellent shock absorption, and outstanding shape retention over time. Coil units maintain seat height exceptionally well and can be cleanly restored or replaced as part of future refurbishment.

Each suspension system is installed by hand, forming a responsive foundation that works in harmony with the layers that follow. Together, they ensure every piece offers comfort, balance, and resilience—designed not just for today, but for decades of use.
Comfort is never accidental – it is carefully engineered. Once the frame has been fully sprung, we begin building the soft architecture of the piece through a considered layering process. A combination of premium foams and fillings is used to achieve a refined balance of support and softness, ensuring the sofa feels as good as it looks, both now and for years to come.
All foam components are precisely hand-cut in our workshop and shaped to individual patterns developed specifically for each design. This tailored approach allows the padding to follow the exact contours of the frame, ensuring consistency, comfort, and longevity across every piece. Any surplus material created during this process is responsibly recycled, reflecting our commitment to reducing waste.
The padding is applied gradually, section by section, allowing our craftspeople to sculpt the form with control and intention. Layer by layer, the piece takes on its final profile—whether the deep curves of a Chesterfield or the clean lines of a contemporary chair.
Cushion interiors are then carefully prepared to complement the structure beneath, creating a seat that offers lasting resilience and a welcoming, relaxed feel. The result is a soft yet supportive foundation, designed to maintain its shape and comfort through many years of everyday living.
Precision and artistry come together at the upholstery stage. All leathers and fabrics are cut using our advanced CNC cutting technology, where every pattern is digitally stored to ensure absolute accuracy and consistency across the collection. This process allows us to achieve a flawless fit while significantly reducing material waste. Any remaining off-cuts are thoughtfully repurposed into hand-finished swatches for our showrooms.
For our patchwork designs, the process becomes even more meticulous. Smaller fabric sections are carefully selected and hand-stitched together by skilled machinists, transforming individual pieces into a unified covering. Each patchwork sofa is entirely unique—crafted slowly and deliberately, and unmistakably a labour of love.
Deep-buttoning is one of the defining hallmarks of a true Chesterfield and a clear marker of quality. Whether upholstered in leather or fabric, every button is individually hand-set, drawn deep into the upholstery and secured with precise, tensioned stitching. The fixing remains concealed within the structure, ensuring both strength and a clean finish.
Each tuft is tightened and balanced by hand, creating the distinctive depth, rhythm, and sculptural surface for which Chesterfield designs are celebrated. The result is a rich, tactile finish that feels as luxurious as it looks—timeless, refined, and built to endure.
The final stage is where individuality takes shape. Every piece is completed by our time-served craftspeople, working together under one roof to ensure consistency, precision, and an uncompromising standard of finish.
Each sofa is made to order, with a carefully curated selection of bespoke details available to personalise the design. From refined plain borders to pleated, single-button, or double-button finishes, every edge is tailored to your preference. Foot shape and stain are selected to complement the overall form, with polishing carried out by hand to achieve the desired tone and character.
Our finishing team oversees the final assembly, ensuring that every element—from border detailing to stud colour and placement—aligns perfectly with your chosen specification. Decorative studs are never applied using pre-made strips. Instead, each stud is individually positioned and hand-set directly into the frame, a slower but far superior method that ensures strength, accuracy, and lasting definition.
This meticulous approach allows intricate detailing to endure, maintaining its beauty and integrity over time. The result is a piece that reflects your personal taste, crafted by a single dedicated team, and finished with the care and attention that true bespoke furniture demands.
